there's been so many reports of deaths lately that i'm just this close to being desensitized to it all - if not for the fact that two of these cases happened right in the heart of an institution where i've been schooling in for the past three years, and all in the span of one week too.

when news of the alleged stabbing broke, i was shocked like many must have been. and like many, i assumed this was a one-off incident - the poor guy must have been stressed and something must have triggered his mental state of mind to commit such a violent act.

and then, last friday, another death in NTU - where a Chinese national was found hanging from his balcony.

and get this - both of them were working in the same lab. the day David Widjaja fell to his death was the first day where Zhou Zheng reported for work at the lab.

currently, speculation is rife on the internet that Widjaja's death is not quite as it seems. (e.g. there were no slits or wounds on Widjaja's wrists at all - confirmed by the police, instead there were injuries on his neck and back) granted, most of these come from his family and friends so you would expect that they want justice for Widjaja. but as the saying goes, there is no smoke without a fire. they must most certainly have reasons to believe that Widjaja's death was mishandled and Widjaja portrayed unjustly in the media as an attacker and a murderer when this has not yet been established by the police.

as of now Prof Chan has been discharged and he has not said anything about the attack - but he is the only living link to this whole saga! i hope the police bring him in for a thorough round of questioning and investigation.

now i'm not trying to insinuate anything here - but pure coincidence that their deaths were four days apart? go figure.

what i'm saying is that even if their deaths are not related at all, the mere fact that NTU experienced 2 deaths in the span of one week says alot. there is a compounding issue that NTU has to look into and figure out what went wrong - and NTU needs to be transparent with all the details regarding these two unfortunate incidents, and not sweep everything under the rug. this is only fair to the deceased's family and friends as well as to the public and to all of us NTU students.

so let me be
a wild flower

its death shall be
the fading of beauty
